Sometimes it feels impossible to write. To speak.
My heart just sits there, waiting to squeeze and let go. I know it doesn’t stop like my writing does, but it. just.feels.like.it.does.
I’ve been becoming bolder in what I say these days as well as with what I write.
I speak up, without worrying about who might be offended, for example.
I use a gentle voice and I say whatever it is that needs to be saying. A good indicator for this is if my hand reaches out. Usually if there is something important to be said my hand is quite vociferous. Just like it is bold in writing with a pencil or pen, my hand becomes bold when there is something important I need to say and others need to hear.
The other day I was sitting around a table with friends, leisurely sharing a meal and conversation. Something came up and I watched as my hand lifted itself across the table and my voice followed suit, saying what needed to be said.
That’s how it works in friendships that are willing and able to take on risky conversation. Words don't tap around the unspoken, it slides in like my hand did, like an assertive runner turning one base into two, sliding into home just… in time.
What is your heart and your hands urging you to speak? What words are your heart and your hands urging you to write? Perhap this is a reason we need to remember to occasionally at least revert back to paper and pencil or pen rather than constantly tapping or swiping with the tips of our fingers.
Listen for a moment, in between your heart’s squeezes and heart’s letting go.
Speak those words. Write those words.
Let your heart squeeze and let go. Pick up those words as she drops them on the page. Speak those words as she place them gently into your voice.
Let go of the fear that keeps your writing hand still and your voice silent.
