My kids were watching “Austin Powers” the other day and had all sorts of questions about how Mike Myers played both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil.  I explained to them that Mike Myers is just extremely talented, and not only did he play two parts in one movie, but he also wrote it and produced it.

As we were talking about him, we all started wondering where and why had Mike Myers seemingly disappeared.  So, of course, in my naturally curious mind for pop culture, I started researching the subject.  Here’s what I found out.

First off, I went to to Mike Myers’ IMDB page and learned that his last work was in 2012 when he created a “Shrek” short film.  It says there was an announcement of “Austin Powers 4,” but with no other information.

I then found an excellent interview with him from GQ Magazine in June 2014.  CLICK HERE to read it.

The article said that Myers responded to the “where have you been” question by saying:

“Every time I make a movie, it’s usually three or four years between. I write most of what I do and create most of what I do. I have four or five creations in my head right now, in fact. That actually takes the longest time, just to sort of figure out which is the one that is appealing to you. And then it takes a long time to write them. On top of that, I also love to take time off. I play floor hockey twice a week here in New York City, I have a great group of friends here. And two and a half years ago I had my first child and I really wanted to be present for that, I wanted to just take it in. And it’s just been…I mean, it’s the happiest time of my life.”

So, there you have it.  Hopefully that extremely creative mind is concocting something new and big for us to behold and adore in the same way that we’ve cherished his other inventions.  We miss you, Mike Myers.  You’re a Dad now.  Write about that.  I know first-hand that there’s oodles of material to make the world laugh just on that one subject.

To honor the great talent of Mike Myers, my song of the day is “Soul Bossa Nova,” the theme song from Austin Powers written by the legendary Quincy Jones.  Enjoy y’all, because this tune is as iconic as Mike Myers is.
