Yesterday did not end up like I planned it to, and it just goes to show that you should always go with the flow.
The Plan
My mother and I were to fly to Los Angeles for the day to spend it with my brother and his family. He just had a baby in November, and I have yet to meet my new nephew. Flight was booked, gifts were wrapped, kids were scheduled with activities in my absence. All was in order for an exciting and happy day ahead.
Plans Change
My Mom and I were sitting in the airport waiting to board the flight when her phone rang. It was my brother explaining that they had illnesses in their house. He was worried that they were contagious. In a flash, my Mom headed to the ticket counter and cancelled our flight reassured that she’d be able to re-book until midnight.
What To Do Now?
We were disappointed. How sad not to follow through with that day. Rather than let it get us down (that’s just not my Mom’s style), we headed to lunch and decided to go see a movie. Seriously….how often do we both have a day with our calendars completely wide open? We love spending time together.
Yes, it was disappointing not going to Los Angeles, but omg…..we saw the best movie ever. ”Saving Mr. Banks” has got to be one of the Oscar contenders this year. Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, author of the “Mary Poppins” books, was A+! Her interactions with Walt Disney, played by Tom Hanks, and what the Disney studio went through with the making of the movie was thought-provoking and touching and a story not to be missed.
I do not get to the movies too often anymore. To hire a babysitter to watch my kids on top of the expense of movie and dinner beforehand is an expensive night out. If it’s not on “On Demand” or “Netflix”, we just don’t see it. So, my afternoon at “Saving Mr. Banks” was a treat that I wouldn’t have had if my circumstances hadn’t changed. Perhaps a day at the movies isn’t as great as meeting a baby nephew, but that was one special movie that I got to share with my beloved Mama.
So, going with the flow is worth being remembered in situations like this one. You never know what the world is going to give you, and so my song of the day is “Surprise” by Gnarls Barkley. His intention with this song is being surprised by love, but surprise can creep into all facets of your life. So, click HERE to hear it and always remember to go with flow.
