… Black Girls are afraid of red lipstick! The survey also says that most girls of all colors, shapes, and sizes fear (or struggle with) choosing red lipstick, but black girls are overwhelmingly terrified and many (bordering on most) avoid it at all cost! But don’t fret girls, I’m here to help!
3 Quick Tips:
In order to be the “Master of your Red”, you have some decisions to make. #ConsiderTheFollowing
1. Decide whether or not YOU want to wear red. Red lipstick screams vintage glamour and oozes confidence, but it’s not for every personality. While it’s true that red lipstick is an all time classic that helped women portray a bold, sexy, and elegant look; it’s definitely NOT mandatory! If you’re wearing a red lip and the color intimidates you (while sitting on your face)… WE CAN TELL! Just don’t do it. Pick another color and move on!
2. Seek professional help! The truth is… EVERYONE can wear red! However, when some women muster up the courage to try red lipstick, they either find their new love or add it to their “NEVER AGAIN“ list! Why? All because of color choice! I suggest that you go to a professional counter and try different shades. Keeping this in mind…
- Fair Complextions & Dark Complexions: Hooray! We can pretty much do whatever we want! From bright to deep reds we’re good! Try on your shade, find what you like and go for it! (I don’t support the orangey- reds on us though!)
- Medium Complexions: (warm, tanned skin) I reserve the blackberry and orangey-reds for you guys! These shades are hard to pull off, but you can do it if you dare!
3. Don’t Push It …and then blame it on the red! Now that you’ve picked the right shade, don’t ruin it with the rest of your makeup. Words to live by… If you’re doing red, do little else (or you’ll look like a clown)! Keep the rest of your makeup clean and simple– add a little blush, crisp black liner, and black mascara (Oh, and lashes if you’re me!) to do the trick. Fin.
Caring Means Sharing…
Personally, I’m quite biased to bold blue-reds and my favorite reds (and everything else makeup concerned) are by ($16-$18) M.A.C Cosmetics! In my book, the winners are…
#1: Ruby Woo (very matte, bold blue-red, LOVE IT!)
#2: Viva Glam Rihanna (blue-red with frost finish, supports the M.A.C Aids Fund)
#3: Prolong (Pro Longwear, true red, lasts up to 12 hrs)
#4: Brave Red (Cremesheen, bright yellow red)
Now the question is… “To Red, Or Not to Red?”
