I love being a teacher. Yesterday, I substituted for my husband’s Sunday religious school class, and it was so much fun. I love relating to young people and getting them excited to learn. Someone once said to me that a good teacher can teach any subject, and I think that statement is very true. To me, the real job of a teacher is figuring out how to engage even the most difficult kids. The learning part will come naturally if you can achieve that.
I only hope and pray that I am successful in my efforts, because when I was young, I was horrible in school if I didn’t have a teacher I could relate to.
Regardless of my success, my song of the day is a song for teachers. Leonard Cohen has an interesting one. He calls the teacher in this song, a “teacher of the heart.” I love that description, because that’s the kind of teacher I strive to be. Here’s hoping!
