Tech Week Day 2 - Cue to Cue Act 1

Posted on the 21 June 2011 by Saratpierce
Cue to Cue of Act 1 today! Things are already falling into place!

Just in case the term "Cue to Cue" is going in one ear and right out the other... lemme splain: A Cue to Cue is the rehearsal where we walk through each number specifically for the benefit of setting the lighting and sound. The director has designated times within the dance where lighting cues will change to help enhance the piece. For example, she may want to create a spotlight on a featured dancer during a solo or use color and shapes to help create an overall mood. These rehearsals also allow the tech crew to learn how and when to start the music for each piece. We have a few dances that continue immediately after the one prior and some where there is time in-between for a costume changes, videos or readings to take place. It's important that the stage crew and whoever is running the sound/light board know these little details so they don't start the music for a number while 1/2 the dancers are still getting dressed. Sheer disaster! These rehearsals can be a bit tedious with stopping and starting of routines to make sure lights are in the right place at the right time but it's well worth it when you see the final product!

In a dancer, there is a reverence for such forgotten things as the miracle of the small beautiful bones and their delicate strength.  ~Martha Graham
