Tech Week is Here Again!

Posted on the 20 June 2011 by Saratpierce
Those of you who are long-time readers and who have decided to stick around and see what kind of shenanigans I'm up to {thank you so much!} should remember back in December when I was eye-ball deep in tech rehearsals for the SIDEWAYS Contemporary Dance Company Holiday show. Well the time has come again as our end-of-the-season performance is just around the corner!
Tech week starts TODAY!
For those of you who don't know what "tech week" means, let's just say practice, practice, practice!
Our show, Breaking Bounds {shameless plug here} is next weekend, June 24-26 so the week prior is all about getting the dancers and the pieces show-ready! We're extremely close {considering we already did MOST of the show during our trip up to Charleston} but in dance things can be totally different once you step onto the stage. You have to consider adding lights into the mix, noting where the audience is, learning where the wings are {the curtains that hang down on the sides of the stage to hide the backstage area}, figuring out how much room you have off stage for quick changes and transitions during pieces and a number of other factors that make tech week VITAL for performance prep! Every tech week I've ever been a part of in my dance and theater career has also been known as HELL WEEK because it tends to make stress levels rise quite a bit but in the end it's worth all the bumps, bruises and sleep deprivation!
Since you all seemed to like my week of dance last time, I thought it only fitting to make it happen again!
Although this time, instead of featuring images of famous dancers, I thought I'd feature a few sneak-peak shots of SIDEWAYS in action to give you a taste of what we're working on throughout the week! AND I'm including some of my favorite dance quotes for you to enjoy!
Here goes nothing!

Tech week is here again!

The whole company in our 'Keep Breathing' {final piece} costumes!!

Until next time...
