Thankvember Day 9. I Am Grateful for Coffee, Straight Up, Zambien Zing & Hugs (Which Equal Dagny's)

Dagnys black and whiteI am grateful for Dagny’s, a local, downtown Bakersfield coffee hang out.

I don’t know when I started going there, but it has to have been several years now. I love their green tea and their Volcan coffee. They have sesame bagels.

They attract artsy people like me and many friends of mine.

There are times I have sat in Dagny’s and talked to people all morning: different people rotating in and out, listening to music, eavesdropping on Dagnysconversations, writing poetry about the characters who show up there.

They expanded recently and Cameron and I have taken to meeting there to grade papers together.  I Writing at Dagny'ssee other academic people there, too,  with stacks of pages with marks on them. It helps to have a place to go with tasks to do so being shut up in your home won’t distract you from the task at hand.

I love the smells there, the staff is cool and they even serve beer so on those days when coffee won’t do, a shock top is a Dagny's expansionwelcome change. I have held Sunday rehearsals there, line throughs, which turn into social events and help break through any awkwardness between cast members.

I am grateful for Dagny’s, as strange as that may seem, for being a calm and chaotic resting place for me when I need a break from my home office. AND! I love the extension recently in place. Yes. I am grateful.....
