The Motivation Proclamation, #650

Posted on the 10 April 2013 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Yesterday, I was really moved by a video I watched on the internet, and I think it’s important enough to share with my readers.   I had been reading my Facebook news feed and noticed some wedding photos on a friend’s page.  I’m a sucker for sweet photographs, and this couple looked so beautiful and happy.  When I clicked on the photo and enlarged it, I was shocked to see that the groom had no arms and legs.  At first I thought it was a an internet hoax, but as I looked up the story, I found something touching beyond words.  Here’s the picture I saw:

It ends up that Nick Vujicic, originally from Australia but now living in Southern California, was born without limbs.  There is no medical reason for and was no warning that he would be born that way, but he grew up with very loving parents who were determined to give him the best life possible.  As an adult, Vujicic has become a motivational speaker, but it was still hard for me to wrap my brain around this wedding.  I’m ashamed to say that it seemed unrealistic that such a gorgeous woman who could probably have any guy she wanted would marry someone with such big disabilities.  Yes, it was superficial thinking on my part, but I’m being honest about my thoughts.

And then….I watched a video of Nick Vujicic speak about bullying.  All I can say is, “Wow!”  He is is amazing!  Within moments of watching this video, I was looking beyond a man with no limbs and seeing an incredible soul.  It is worthy of sharing with all of you, because it is inspiring.  Here is the video.  I encourage all of you to watch it:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l91cgdFCkJ0.  Here is Nick Vujicic’s website, as well:  http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org/

My children walked into the room while I was watching the video.  They are only 6 & 8-years-old, but rather than monitor the content beforehand, I let them watch the video with me.  They were glued to all 17 minutes of this riveting lecture, and we talked all about bullying and kindness when it was over.  Yes parents, watch this video with your kids.  It is so thought-provoking and leads to amazing discussion.

My song of the day is by the rock band, Good Charlotte.  ”The Motivation Proclamation” begs the listener to motivate them, so here you go, Good Charlotte.  Here’s your motivation.  It’s a good song for the topic, so click HERE to listen to it, and as you do, I hope it inspires all of my readers, as well.  Everyone needs a good talking to sometimes, and Nick Vujicic is just the guy.
