The Perfect Cup of Coffee on a Just Right Morning

Posted on the 31 December 2013 by Juliejordanscott @juliejordanscot

Today I watched the sunrise through the lace curtains covering my window. Perfect cup of coffee on a just right morning

I watched the sky turn from dark blue to a blushing pink to a torrid crimson to a fresh tangerine, then more like an orange color. I turned away for a moment to do a visual greeting of my plants and my books and my pets, all three who were gathered near by me. When I looked back, the sky had turned to an early morning blue.

No more show, no more colors – still lovely but not a multi-hued dance costume floating along the horizon.

I felt Walt, my dog, warming my feet and thought, “This is what I want. I window facing East covered with lace curtains so that I can watch the sunrise while still under the warm covers. This is what I have, this is what I want.”

I sit here writing on the last day of an old year.

I made my own yummy coffee – better than any I buy anywhere. My family wakes up around me. My pets follow me around as I take care of my morning chores.

There are no high fives of huge accomplishments or lusty standing ovations.

There are the two phoebes which have been keeping me company since it has gotten cold and the finches moved off, I’m thinking, to a more consistently warm climate.

These little miracles fill me with contentment and these little miracles are what I must sit and sip in the morning so that I remain filled with their magic throughout the day.

My coffee couldn’t be more perfect today. I hold the warm mug to my lips and drink. There is nothing I would rather be drinking. I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else besides writing these words for you.

I would call this a just right end to the year.
