It is Elul – the Hebrew month that includes the Jewish High Holy days. To me, Elul means getting the shofar out, dusting it off, cleaning it up and practicing this ancient-old instrument.
Fortunately, I am not a professional. My goal for learning how to play the shofar years ago was as an educational tool for children. When people realize that you actually know how to play one of these things though, you are asked to do it more often than you’d think.
So, pretty shofar, it’s you & me, and the conquest of making a perfect sound. There’s something pretty calming about all of that vibration, and it helps me focus. All month long, Jewish people start their day with it. Thought you’d all enjoy this very beautiful shofar video I found on Youtube, and maybe it might feel good to start your day with it, too.
