My husband tells a story about when he was a young boy. He was getting ready for a Pinewood Derby Race, and his father was too busy to help him make the car. So, on his own, he made the car himself…only he didn’t really have tools to cut the wood. So, his car was a decorated block of wood with wheels. The day of the race he recalls that everyone was laughing and pointing at his car and that even though it looked rather pathetic, it was the most popular one there. He actually won an award for it, but the memory of it has stuck with him all of these years.
So, when our son’s Cub Scout troop announced that they would be having a Pinewood Derby race, my husband took it really seriously. He was reliving his childhood, and our son was happily taking on the project with his Daddy.
Last night was the race:
Here comes our son’s car. It’s the yellow one with the blue stripe.
He takes 3rd place!
We were all so excited! To see the happiness and pride on our son’s face was priceless. For me, to see the happiness and pride on my husband’s face was just as priceless, too. I am so thrilled for both of them!
My husband and I argued about the song of the day for this blog post today. Like the rocker he truly is, my hubby wanted me to use Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” as the song of the day. I wanted the theme song from the “Speed Racer” TV show. So, I made a decision …. today we have 2 songs of the day, because they’re both good. CLICK HERE to listen to Deep Purple’s “Highway Star,” and CLICK HERE to hear the theme song from “Speed Racer.” Two songs for two generations of Highway Star/Speed Racers. What a fun memorable evening!
