I’ve been really diggin’ the music coming out from The Weekend lately, and I’m not alone. There’s a buzz about this guy. His vocals are amazing, melodies are catchy, and then there’s the hair. I’m not sure what going on with the hairdo, but who cares? This guy is pretty darn fascinating and seems to be crossing over to all audiences. So today, I’m writing about him to satisfy some curiosity.
You may’ve already guessed it, but The Weekend is not this artsy soul singer’s real name. Born Abel Tesfaye, The Weekend is Canadian (but of Ethiopian decent) and hones his skills in singing, songwriting and producing music. A really cool story about The Weekend – his start in the music industry was by releasing self-produced mix tapes for free on his website. His live performances drew his audience in, and you can say the rest is history.
He has worked with a list of artists such as Drake and Beyonce, and his performances are magnetic. It’s no wonder big names want to work with him. He is definitely the “it” guy of the moment.
The Weekend is going to be around for a long while. I’d be surprised if his star fizzles and burns out before we get more beloved hit singles. So today….enjoy the two most recognizable.
“Earned It” is from the “Fifty Shades of Grey” soundtrack. The video is not for the faint-hearted. Make sure to watch it far away from your kids! This is not a video you’d want them to see.
