Twist and Shout, #680

Posted on the 10 May 2013 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Life is full of twists and turns, and when one of them sneaks up taking me by surprise, I’m always thrown for a loop. You would think by now that I was used to the little bumps in the road, but no can do. It’s a shocker every time.

These twists are minor little occurrences , and I can almost hear the echo of the quote “Don’t sweat the small stuff” bouncing through my mind, but I guess I like my world running according to plan. Yesterday was not one of those days.

The phone rang. “Hello. Sorry to tell you, but your son just threw up. Please come pick him up from school.” And then….an hour later, the phone rang again. “Your daughter hasn’t thrown up, but she’s complaining of stomach pains and is resting in the nurse’s office. Maybe you should come pick her up, too.”

Of course, I have plenty of love and concern for my children, but is it so awful that my thoughts immediately drifted to my afternoon schedule and all that I had to cancel and reschedule ahead of me? An afternoon tending to sick children also means not getting everything done that I needed to.

As I pulled onto my street after picking up my daughter, the Comcast truck was driving away. I hate seeing the Comcast truck, because I always relate them to TV, phone and Internet issues. Lo and behold, not only was I stuck at home with the kids, but now the Internet and phone weren’t working. Comcast’s explanation: “There’s been an event in the neighborhood.” We’ll let me tell you…unless that event was a fabulous star-studded ball-gown soirée, I don’t want to even hear about. Just get my Internet up and running!!! Please!

So, the moral of this tale of “woe-is-me” is that whether I like it or not, sometimes I am forced into rolling with the punches. Such is life, so I guess I better just make the most of it. In this case, I actually got my son’s room clean. Now that’s a real accomplishment.

My song of the day is The Beatles’ “Twist and Shout” as my way of embracing all of life’s twist and turns. Click HERE to go to YouTube to hear the song, and please be proud of me. I’m doing my best to take baby steps.
