Umrao
As luck would have it
It didn't come to me
when I desired
but just when I needed it
two double jeopardies to handle
in one single day
is a task,
requiring invincible wisdom and patience
both of which,
I am not virtuous enough of having in my repertoire
it came like a culture shock
the theatre and the story
imparting lessons which couldn't have been available nowhere else
on conventional, traditional and spiritual wisdom and its awakening
and how to find one's path
amidst all mediocrity and deceiving clutter
watching those colorful people
shining red, green, blue and purple
brimming with tenacity and zeal
they told a tale
much beyond everyone's comprehension
only those who see,
and hear well
can hear it,
comprehend it,
appreciate it
And 'Umrao'
She dreamt of emancipation
from the patriarchal society
much before we mortals heard thunder cries,
looking to end the subjugation
she was way ahead of her time,
I heard it,
time and again
but, in a way
she was an epitome of grit,
imagination,
an Indian suffragette personified
She was in essence,
timeless..
