Updating

Posted on the 08 May 2013 by Gray Eyed Athena @grayeyedowl

The documentarian within me feels the need to push through my haze and provide an update for my own records (since, ultimately, this blog is meant for me).

I met with my Neurologist, Dr. Maloy, yesterday and LOVED her.  She is double board certified in Neuro and Psych, and she’s a pit bull.  She’s in her late 30′s, has crazy hair, and is sharp as a whip.  She immediately ordered a sleep study for me, neuropsychological testing (for my cognitive functions since I know I have decreased memory abilities post-concussions), and blood work to examine my thyroid functions and my b12 and vitamin d levels.

She is also raising the question of an ADHD diagnosis for me, to help label the issues I have with risk-seeking.  I loved her attitude of “this is a research project and we need more information” rather than the abrupt, wave-me-aside attitude of my PCP.

Dr. Maloy prescribed Clonidine, an antihypertension drug that is also used to treat ADHD, anxiety and panic disorders.  It has sedative side-effects, so here’s hoping it helps me stay asleep.

My mother was pinned last night as a nurse!  My dad and my youngest brother and I were there to celebrate with her and then we went out to a lovely dinner, where I managed to eat two scallops, two prawns, and some vegetables.  And then barely made it home (I hate driving at night) to fall into bed, waking early this morning for acupuncture and chiropractor.

My weekend in Boston was fun, but tiring.  I loved my dress, loved seeing Alyson and celebrating her 25th birthday, loved all the attention from guys, but was hung over and exhausted when I returned home by train on Sunday.  It didn’t set me up very well for a good start to the week.  My cousin Thomas graduates in Boston this coming weekend as a Doctor of Physical Therapy (yay!!) and wants me to come down to party, but I’m not sure I have it in me.

I think I need to cut, soon.
