Vanity and Pride

Two swords
unsheathed
neck to neck
“Trouble”
I proclaimed,
inevitable and deep
“First blood ! First blood”
I hear,
a rallying cry
four eyes hungry,
and two,
riddled with fear
An insurmountable misery,
laughs at the plight
Two eyes, moist
they seek me,
But the other eyes,
vanity and pride,
never let them be
Those demons,
at loggerheads, always
inflict injury after injury

I disregard my existence
my beliefs and individuality,
to blend in,
feeding those eyes,
erratic and hungry

I lose sight of the shore
and drown,
in an inescapable abyss,
deceived by ecstasy
Euphoric ! I lash out
“If only you had done this my way”

But they don’t tell me then, that
all ways were mine,
all choices equal
a veil existed, but
they didn’t tell me that
When I figured, it was
a tad too late,
They said
“If only I had heard,
what those two moist eyes said.
if only..”
