Super Adorable Book Art DIY: Thrift Heaven Repurposing Upcycling at its best! Vintage Book Art - Thrift Heaven! at its best.

This may be the world's sweetest little piece of art I have created yet - and a simple DIY project to brighten up your desk or your dresser or to give to a dear friend "just because".....

I used a plain brown wood frame I bought for 50 cents at a yard sale which I spray painted gold as the beginning. I have lots of vintage books on hand because not only do I love them, but they make the most awesome backgrounds.

This piece is from a 1967 atlast and you look directly from the top of the globe from the Arctic circle south.  You can see the world as it was back then, complete with the USSR which is now a whole bunch of other countries.

The dress is from an English text book which I folded - I learned to do origami by searching YouTube for videos. I love folding paper now and instead of using special origami papers, I use my stash of vintage books again. If you want to use old books, text books work great. Some pages are too stiff and will rip and break.

Text books, I have found one like this from as early as the 1930's, tend to have a great weight and sturdy quality.

I painted the polka dots on the page (which has handwriting from a long ago student as well) by dipping the end of a pencil into the paint and dabbing away. Nothing special there, but I love the effect. The polka dots are far from perfect and I like it that way - to add to the vintage feel.

What do you think?

How do you like to use vintage books in your projects?
