We Are Young, #1227

Posted on the 29 September 2015 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

My daughter read my blog to her yesterday, and even though I expressed how much I love her and how much she means to me on her birthday, she was a little disappointed.  “Mom, aren’t you going to write a blog about my birthday party?”

I hadn’t planned on it.  After all, she’s getting a little older, and it wasn’t the type of party that had a character showing up in costume or a strong theme like the tea party year, Frozen or Little Mermaid years either.  This was just a swim party with lots of friends – perfect for my little tween on the brink of being a teenager in a couple of year.

Regardless, as I began to think, perhaps I would write about her party, because things are changing.  This party was, in fact, different than all of the other parties in previous years.  The cake was just a cake – a cute one, but no Disney princesses at all.  Instead it head a big microphone and music notes and hearts to represent her love of music – something I can relate to really well.

Swimming, singing pop music, hanging with friends – my kid has entered a new phase.  She feels a little funny about it, because from her point of view, she never wants to grow up.  The problem is that she’s stuck in that unusual age caught between being a child and a teenager, and her birthday party represented that.

So blog readers, here are a few photos from her tween birthday party as she requested, and I’m sending you all on with your day with the song “We Are Young” by Fun, because being young is what it’s all about.
