Saturday November 19 was my aunt's wedding. It was kind of cold outside. When we first got to Otello's the room we were suppose to have the ceremony in and take pictures in was set up for someone else's wedding! We ended up having to take pictures outside and had the ceremony in the room we ate in. Me and my sister were bridesmaids and looked beautiful. After the ceremony there was a break then a Chinese tea ceremony. My aunt and new uncle had to give all their relatives tea and in exchange got money in red envelopes. It took a long time because there were lots of relatives. They wore different outfits for the tea ceremony.
My aunt wrote that: The Tea Ceremony is the most significant event in a modern Chinese wedding. Tea is used because it is China’s national drink and serving it is a sign of respect. The bridal couple performs a tea ceremony, as a sign of respect to their families. This is also when the bride is formally introduced to the groom's family and when the bride thanks her parents for raising her. The Tea Ceremony will usually take place on the wedding day when most of the family members are present. It is customary to have the woman on the left side and the man on the right side. The people being served will sit in chairs, while the bride and groom kneel. When the newlyweds serve tea to the groom’s parents, the bride would kneel in front of her father-in-law, while the groom would kneel in front of his mother.
The order of service is usually
· parents, ·grandparents, ·grand-uncles and grand-aunties, ·uncles and aunties, ·elder brothers and sisters, ·elder cousins To the Chinese, the color red has an important, rooted meaning. It is a visual expression of happiness and joy and so it is used in all celebrations, including weddings. Another symbol of happiness is the Shuang Xi, or Double Happiness. The symbol of Double Happiness is a declaration that the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be will be united. The symbol, which is composed of two standard Chinese characters used to signify "happiness", means that the couple and their families will now be "together" and "ensures" their future happiness.
After that were the h'orderves. There were spring rolls, cheese and crackers, melon wrapped in meat, meats on sticks, corn chips and crab dip, mushrooms and bread and roasted vegetables. For dinner I was the only one who had the vegetarian meal. It was a roasted red pepper stuffed with rice on top of a sauce with way too much garlic. I think there was something else on the side but I can't remember what it was. I only had the pepper though because I was already stuffed from the h'orderves, the parsnip and pear soup and tortellini served before the dinner. For dessert there was Tiramisu. It tasted like coffee flavored icing, it was okay. There was also a candy bar, wedding cake, pastries, pizza and a fruit tray.
It was a good wedding, I had fun but it was a bit long for me. I didn't really talk to anyone except my mom and spent most of the time guarding my Wii system. The Wii was set up in another room and people were playing wii sports.
Today at horseback riding we starting jumping but my horse was too lazy and just stepped over the bars. He trotted today too but only because another horse bit his bum.
