Wedding Jitters Could Be a Predictor for a Future Divorce (Original article)

Wedding Day

A very interesting read, and also truly believable. Although I’m only 18 and I have no intention of being married anytime soon (I don’t even have a girlfriend) this is a helpful bit of advice for my future.

20% of marriages whose wives had the jitters before getting marriage ended in divorce within 4 years. 14% of marriages whose husbands had the jitters before getting marriage ended in divorce within 4 years. That’s highly statistically significant, considering a marriage is supposed to be a sacred thing and it’s one of the biggest decisions of your life. Well that’s how I see marriage, it’s one of the most sacred and important decisions you’ll make in your life. Too bad it’s been soiled by this little thing called ‘divorce’.

“The scientists said that among the couples who remained still married after four years, husbands and wives with jitters were significantly less happy in their marriages when compared to those who did not hesitate to get married.” I don’t know how they conducted the study or how they measured everything, but this is just tragic. Especially to the couples involved – I think everyone needs to read this study and make your own decision of whether you believe it or not.

I’m sure everyone gets the jitters before their marriage (I can’t relate to it at my age), and I’m not sure how they would measure ‘jitteryness’ but it’s definitely something for me to look out for when/if I do get married.
