I’ve been wanting to write this post for a couple weeks now when my husband brought today’s “song of the day” to my attention.  It got pushed aside though as other topics entered into my mind perhaps in the same way music producers would have been fearful of its outcome if Miley Cyrus had released “Wrecking Ball” as much lesser known vocalist, Jennifer Foster, had.

When I watch Miley Cyrus perform today, I feel incredibly sad.  She is a beautiful girl with so much talent, and yet, she is handling the music industry in the cheapest and most disrespectful way.   It hurts to see a young talent make bold statements by appearing naked in a video and seemingly prostituting herself to sell albums.  Miley has the vocal chops to have longevity, but too much success too fast in a dishonest artistic way can only have one result….her star will burn out.  Mark my word…it will happen.

The video my husband shared with me is what “Wrecking Ball” should have been.  Jennifer Foster’s approach is soulful and classy, and it makes the listener realize how good of a song “Wrecking Ball” really is.  There is less production, and the attention now focuses on the vocals and beautiful cello that accompanies her.  Foster is hidden in the shadows, as the listener is forced to focus on what they are hearing…not what they are seeing.

What a sad commentary that music producers think that we would prefer the Miley version, and that there are young pop stars who would listen to these music industry head honchos.  You be the the judge and let me know which version you prefer.  Click HERE to listen to Jennifer Foster’s performance of “Wrecking Ball.”  I could listen to her over and over again even after cringing and turning the dial every time Miley comes on the radio.  Thank you Jennifer Foster for setting this beautiful ballad straight!
