When my daughter was two-years-old, we were at the park for a festival, and she went on her first ever pony ride. She had such an affinity with that horse, and it was all she talked about for a very long time.
Several months later, we spent a weekend at Tucson’s Tanque Verde Dude Ranch, and again, she got up on a horse for a ring ride. She loved being on that horse so much, it sealed the deal with her. My daughter was a bonafide horse girl, and ever since then, she has begged me to find her horseback riding lessons.
This is the oldest picture I can find of her on a horse.
She didn’t get on a horse again for a very long time after that, because really, finding horseback riding lessons for a 2-year-old didn’t seem reasonable to me. She was just too young.
When she was six-years-old, we went to New Mexico on a vacation. Not only did she ride a horse on that vacation, but it started snowing while she was riding. The setting was so beautiful, and it was like a fairy tale.
There was even a horse birthday party that year.
Well, after two summers away where she went horseback riding at camp, I decided that this obsession was not one that was going to go away. So, we signed up for lessons at Tucson’s Rockin’ Star Ranch, and I think this is the start of a really good thing for her.
What a happy day. Check out some photos from lesson #1!
My song of the day is “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones in honor of my sweet girl and her love for these beautiful animals. She is my wild horse, and with her new lessons, she is off into the wind on a new adventure! Yeehaw!
