Zoe Akins: Poet, Novelist, Screenwriter, Pulitzer Prize Winner 1935 The Poem underneath, written by Ernest Hemingway, includes Zoe Akins as one of the "Lady Poets" (#4)

Zoe Akins was a classmate of Sara Teasdale at Hosmer Hall, both in the class of 1903 and both would eventually woo the world with their words.

For now, please read a poem and a quote:

"I AM THE WIND"

I am the wind that wavers,
You are the certain land;
I am the shadow that passes
Over the sand.

I am the leaf that quivers,
You the unshaken tree;
You are the stars that are steadfast,
I am the sea.

You are the light eternal,
Like a torch I shall die...
You are the surge of deep music,
I - but a cry!

"Nothing seems so tragic to one who is old as the death of one who is young and this alone proves that life is a good thing."

Zoe Akins will be a featured writer in my 2013 A to Z Writing Challenge: Women in Literary History from A to Z which I will complete this April.
