Todays class greeted us with some interesting writing exercise. The lecturer who is also my dear friend felt that by doing these exercises they will help us improve as they are crucially beneficial to our writing.
"A way of warming up" she so specifically said.
Exercise: We were to write our surname and jot down what we know of our name. (Where was it derived, what do we know about it...etc.)
Karim
My surname, my fathers name. This name represents who I am to this day. Whenever I meet older individuals, especially in Brunei, they find it their business to as ask who my father is.
"Anak Haji Karim" is what I would always say.
To me, names ar definitely a social status, especially when there is a title alongside it. Growing up my last name was just merely a name. More importantly it was my fathers name, proof that I am my fathers daughter.
