You Better Be Moving

As a future Naval Nurse in the ROTC program, we’re required to go through many training courses and classes to further enhance our leadership skills.

Sitting through a brief today, the Captain put a quote up on the screen that read this:

“Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn’t matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be moving.” // Roger Bannister

I was extremely tired watching this entire brief, doing my best to blink fast three times and tap my leg to keep from falling asleep. I had been wearing myself out all week trying to keep up with classes and early morning physical training; even the bills that were still on my kitchen counter top and the lunch dates I had promised over the next few days were exhausting to even think about! (I know, we’ve all been there.)

That is, until I read those words.

You better be moving.

What a revelation to hear the Lord beckon me softly.

“Zandra, I know you’re tired, but the enemy will outrun you if you don’t start running first. Rise up, and I will give you the wings to carry you to the farthest reaches of the universe.

Run. Don’t walk. Don’t look back. Be fast. Look ahead. Don’t STOP.

My sisters, do you see what He’s sayingAthletes train themselves to work hard towards their goal. When they are bound and determined to win the race, they train every single day. They take care of themselves and hydrate properly. They eat the best and the right amount of carbs. They stretch, and they dedicate every minute to ensuring that they will rise to the top. An athlete has to train their bodies on a daily basis to become strong and fast.

And then we wonder why our faith is so weak when we only spend twenty minutes a week in His word.

We are slowing ourselves down, and the enemy knows it. That’s when he strikes.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. // 1 Corinthians 9:24

When you feel tired and you just can’t go on, remember that strength is not of ourselves.

He desires to restore us completely, but we must discipline ourselves to get up and continue to run hard.

The path is set out before you, and the prize is absolutely worth every step you take, no matter how long or how far.
