Toast

As the countdown began setting off the transition from 2013 into 2014, I observed the picture all around me….old friends and new friends, children enthusiastic about the celebration jumping up and down, champagne ready to be popped…..it was an overwhelming feeling of happiness.  I love New Year’s Eve just for that reason, and it is important to me to really celebrate that moment to the fullest.  How you bring in the new year sets the tone for the rest of the year in my opinion, and last night was perfect.

Of course, I am not as young as I used to be.  Going to bed at 2 AM is no longer in my vocabulary, and for the one time each year that I do it, I am cursing the next day suffering the consequences.  My head is fuzzy today, but not too fuzzy to be smiling with the happy memories from a lovely evening and hopeful wishes of a beautiful year ahead.

One of my favorite moments from last night happened just after the ball dropped.  We were watching Ryan Seacrest on” Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve,” and the camera went to a stage with Billy Joel performing to a huge audience.  He sounded amazing singing “You May Be Right.”  We realized that all of us had seen him at least once in concert, and we all sang a long enjoying each other and the music and just having fun.  Now that is truly the perfect start to a new year.    ”You May Be Right” will forever be associated with New Year’s Eve 2013 for me, and so it is the perfect song of the day.  Click HERE to hear Billy Joel perform it back in 1980, and please enjoy it as my wish for a very Happy New Year to all of you!  May your year be filled with peace, prosperity, good health and good friends. xo
