Дайте, пожалуйста водка? (Please, give me vodka)
This is a new Russian phrase I've learned that really would've come in handy after the events of this past weekend. No, I wasn't at a Russian bar/cafe, although it would sound like a fun way to blow off some steam. You ever had one of those weekends where one thing happens and then like a domino effect, one thing after another happens? That was my weekend. A nice White Russian would've helped eased it....But alas, invading the liquor cabinet wasn't going to solve my problems. Because of this past weekend, I didn't have much time to bury my nose in my "Everything Russian" book. But I have a feeling with the loads of time off I'll have this week, I'll find myself at Starbucks and digging into the Russian language and culture.I've been seeing more and more trailers for Chernobyl Diaries and even posted about it on Facebook. A lot of people seem excited about it and I had a friend (from Moscow) tell me she had family that were on a train passing by Chernobyl the day before the disaster happened. I did a little online searching on Chernobyl and there seems to be many mysteries surrounding the incident. There was also an article the other day in the headlines about Fukushima and it's similarities/differences to Chernobyl that I found on my homepage but other than that, I haven't done much but that will change later on in the week...look for most posts!
