April Book Reviews

Posted on the 03 May 2012 by Lifeofasportswife @jessaolson
April was a busy month for me reading wise. I started out the month reading 4 different books. My goal is to finish reading all of them to start the Hunger Games. I accomplished the first part, but haven't started the Hunger Games...YET!!
The first book I finished was a Spoelstra book, "Success is Only a Wish Away." It's a pretty quick read and only 150 pages. I read it in a Friday afternoon. It goes great with another book I am reading called "Chazown." (Chazown means vision in Hebrew.) So between the 2 books I'm finding my vision and living with joy and passion.
The biggest thing from the Success book is E-W-E. Which stands for Effective Work Ethic. Sometimes we make a situation too complicated or over think things. (I know I do all the time.) In this book you learn to change yourself or  situation every 90 days.
I have also learned how to be a better manager for when that time comes. I have watched past and current bosses on how they manage and how the employees react. A key topic is to manage people to maximize their activities.
Chazown has been a book I have tried to read before with another lifegroup. Our current lifegroup is finishing the book. I have felt a deeply convicted to finish and find my vision. I am trying to take it slow and read through the book and learn everything. The great thing about the book is the website that goes along with the book.
My third book I finished was "Marketing Outrageously" by Jon Spoelstra. I have only 1 more Spoelstra book and I will be DONE! This book is a lot like "Ice to Eskimos." My favorite part of this book is about throwing away reach and frequency. Which is funny, because as a marketing major that is a main thing I learned.
My final book was "Having a Mary Heart in Martha World." At first the book was very hard to get into, but once I did I love it! There are some great tips and tricks on how to be more like Mary.
For those of you who don't know the story, its a bible story about when Jesus came to Mary and Martha's house. Martha was freaking out making sure everything was cleaned and prepared for Jesus. I mean, Come on not very often is Jesus just chilling in your house. Here's where the story takes a twist...Mary was sitting in the living room with Jesus listening. This did not make Martha very happy and she went to Jesus to make her work, but Jesus did not to that. He said she chose right and that won't be taken from her.
I will be the first one to admit if someone is coming over to the house. I will make sure the house is clean, food is cook, and that they have everything they need to be comfortable. So I am much like Martha in that way. From this book I did learn about ways to be more like Mary.
What books have you been reading? Let me know because I love to read.
Jessa
