The selection of animals to choose from in the Africa setting
This app is one of a series of apps for toddlers by 22Learn.com. I downloaded the free version of it which has one scene, Africa to explore and eight animals to discover. The full version has an additional twelve scenes including backyard, forest, meadow and sea amongst others. You select an animal by touching it, it then appears as a jigsaw like puzzle. Once you put the pieces of the animal back together Ben's favorite part happens - a monkey appears, but not in any ordinary manner! Sometimes he zooms up in his car which always guarantees a 'vroom vroom monkey!' from Ben, other times he parachutes in. The monkey then produces a sign with the animals name and says it along with some words of praise for you. Then the animal makes it's noise, another element Ben loves. You go back to all the animals by simply clicking on the menu which is at the top right-hand corner and can select another animal.Piecing the puzzle together
Yay! Monkey arrives on the scene :
It is also worth noting that you can change some of the settings for the app including the Difficulty level which is great as you can make it more challenging for your little one once they get the hang of it. Other settings which parents might be glad to know about are the ability to switch sounds, music and read names on and off should you require it, this is always good I find if you are using the app to keep your child entertained on a plane, train or waiting room for instance and don't want to disturb those around you.Settings options
The great thing about this app is that it is fun for toddlers to play and offers encouragement and praise in the form of the monkey who they are guaranteed to love. It develops their fine motor skills and logic in piecing the puzzle back together, teaches them the names of animals, how you spell each animals name by displaying it on screen and the sounds they make. As it also groups animals in their habitats it helps children to learn such associations. Ben has been enjoying playing with this app over the past week and has gotten very fast at it so I think it may be time to try him on the normal difficulty level and see how he fares.Abby Animal Preschool Shape Puzzles - Africa HD Free is available to download for free for the iPad from the AppStore and the full version can be purchased for £1.49. The app is also available in free and full versions for the iPhone. These apps are well worth downloading to keep your little one entertained while they learn about lots of different animals in a fun way.
