Blog Brunch: Finding Your Voice

Posted on the 30 November 2012 by Lifeofasportswife @jessaolson
Do you blog brunch? If not, you need to start NOW!! I found them a few months ago, and absolutely LOVE them. Its' the first Saturday of the month. (YES, tomorrow) Each month is a different topic. This month was all about finding your voice.
Finding your voice in the blogging community can be the most librating yet scariest thing ever. There are so many bloggers out there. Plus, I see bloggers that have 1500 followers and I have 100. I want to be like them NOW. When I first started blogging I wanted to "model" these bloggers and be exactly like them.  Your readers don't want that, they want you to be YOU! That's why they follow you. (I'm sorry if I switch back from I's to you's. Please don't take it personally it's just me. I write how I talk.) Decormusings touched on this during the chat too. Basically hit the street with your camera, and be creative.
The Thursday before they post the questions and strong suggest you write now. The conversation moves fast. The first time I heard that I didn't believe them, because I have done other chats and they weren't fast. They are serious. It moves fast, but so much fun.
I learned so much from this girls that I felt so strongly about writing a post about it. Every time I get off this chat I'm ready to take on the world.
Shrimp Salad Circus: A3: Consistency is key. Have some element in your posts that will make them instantly recongnizable as yours.
(I will warn you will see this handle A LOT during this post. I think I "favorited" every one of her comments.)
Sparklemeetspop: Blogging is best done with plenty of time, attention to detail and passion.
**I completely agree with this. I know one of my weakness is attention to detail. I am always in a hurry to get it done that I forget to proof read my work. I'm working on it. The time I am getting better at b/c I have set aside time each week just for blogging. I could still be better but couldn't we all.
Speaking of time: here is Shrimp Salad Circus on that topic.
Create a consistent editorial calendar to help you stay focused and directed. This will improve content which leads to traffic.
**I asked her what she uses and she said google calendar. I have moved more towards google calendar because my blog is taking over my normal planner.
Guest Posting: I have yet to have someone guest post on my blog, but it is something that I plan to do in the new year. I think it is a great way to drive new people to your blog. There has been so much talk about who should guest post, but it's all up to the blogger.
Pinterest: This is something that I haven't thought about in blog. I don't know about you, but I have a hard enough time tweet, facebooking, write, edit, and work on post. Now add pinterest. I do add photos in my blog, but are they pinnable pictures. Not sure. I think I will wait for a little bit on this one. Just wanted to add it for those of you who are ready.
By the way, after you write and post a blog what do you do to get it out there? I would love to know.
That's all I have for finding your voice. Let me know what you do.
