- 1 meter x 1 meter of white canvas
- 1 fabric dye kit
- rubber bands
- a plastic bucket
- plastic gloves
- scissors
I folded the placemats lengthwise in one inch folds (like an accordion) before tying three rubber bands along the length of it. Here's a tip, when tying your rubber bands, tie them really really tight. In other words, when you think you've tied it tight enough, tie it tight once more (trust me). I made the mistake of having loose rubber bands the first time around and the dye soaked through the fabric. They looked horrible and I had to start again. Not fun. Wet your fabric and then follow the fabric dye instructions. I placed mine in a bucket with hot water and dipped the placements in it for 15 minutes before wrapping them in plastic wrap for 30 minutes. Next, I rinse the placemats until the water ran clear and laid them out to dry in the sun. Dying techniques will vary depending on the type of fabric dye you use, so for the absolute best results, follow the instructions down to the last letter! Once they were dry, I ironed them out ....et voila! Done and done. Have you ever made placemats before? Thanks for reading.
