Excel Lip Cream: 502 Review

Posted on the 02 October 2012 by Ileodarod @ilevillegas
As I mentioned in my haul here, I bought six Excel Lip Creams. The first one I tried is #502 as I think it's the lightest pink among the pinks that I got.
If you want to see swatches of 501, 510 and 512, check out my post here.

Now before anything else, let me clear up things. I believe there are a lot of controversies surrounding this product as it's really cheap and is obviously one of those products from China that you can't really trust. I probably shouldn't have bought these in the first place but I still did and you know why? Because I like experimenting and my curiosity got the better of me. But now my ever-persistent conscience is telling me that I should tell you guys first not to follow my example, so there!
As for this review, I probably wouldn't treat this product the same way I treat other beauty products. Rather, I would probably just allow myself to be fascinated with it the same way that a child is fascinated with her brand new barbie doll.

Excel Lip Cream: 502 Reviewmade in Germany? I doubt it.
Excel Lip Cream: 502 ReviewThe barcode is obviously for display as the barcodes on the other bottles I got all look the same.

Now for the swatches. As the product is obviously really drying, it's super impractical to apply it directly on your lips. The obvious solution to this is to use lipbalm first as base. Jen from Pretty Thrifty suggested to me that it's better to use a creamy lipstick underneath.
Excel Lip Cream: 502 Reviewlipgloss ; creamy lipstick ; lipbalm ; none.
As you can see, the swatch with no base is so matte, it almost looks like paint. The ones with creamy lipstick and lipbalm are looking pretty good, a bit creamy already but still looks matte. The one with the lipgloss as base is too creamy and glossy, which shouldn't be as this product is all about the matte effect.
Tried rubbing it off using a tissue paper. One swipe and this is how it looks like. Excel Lip Cream: 502 Review
Tried rubbing it off completely and...

The ones with a base are really easy to remove but the one with none didn't budge at all.
But it's not immune to make-up remover. Ever Bilena's make-up remover that isn't even completely effective in removing water-proof mascara can easily erase this last swatch of matte lip cream from my arm.

So pigmented! hahaha! And I can't seem to apply this right.

Tried removing it with just tissue alone.

mwah!
hahaha! of course I can't remove it with just tissue alone. It transfers though.
LikesPigmentedCheapNo smell(the acrylic-like smell that other bloggers talked about came from the packaging itself)
DislikesReally dryingHard to removeNo ingredientsMight be cancerous(?) No expiration dateDespite it's claim, I don't think it's made in GermanyWhile the product itself has no smell, the packaging does, especially the wand.
I'm not going to rate this because as I mentioned earlier, I'm treating it as a toy. Unless I'm particularly in the mood for some bright colors, I'll probably won't be able to wear this color. I think it'll look great in photoshoots and stage make-up though. How I wish I had one last year.
Now for more swatches

I did not take an instant liking to the color to be honest. It's because I did not understand this type of pink. And at this point I also realized that you can tell if you have become girly indeed once you've come to be conscious of your awareness of the different shades of pink, and how they match your skin tone. hahaha!
But then... I'm pretty confused with my skin tone too. I'm not sure if I am warm-toned, or a combination type. Even my camera is confused with me too.
See I have more yellow undertones in this picture.

And as you can see, between the two pictures, the lipstick looks better on the picture where I looked cool-toned.
Anyway, more swatches!

I think violet and pink makes me look a bit cool-toned.
