Guest Post: Rhyme & Ribbon's Favorite Travel Moments

My name is Amanda and I write the lifestyle blog Rhyme & Ribbons. I'm an American living in England, so I've gotten to do my fair bit of traveling. I thought today I'd show you my Top 10 Travel Moments! I've been lucky enough to travel through quite a few countries, although I am clearly not as widely traveled as some! 10. Being in Zurich for Sechselauten, a festival that celebrated the coming of the Spring. But it also involves throwing dead fish into the crows and burning a giant snowman effigy who's head is filled with explosives. It was epic. And here's the burning snowman in all his glory.
9. I don't know what it was about the tiny seaside town of Tynemouth on the outskirts of Newcastle, but from the moment I stepped foot there, I simply loved it!  Priory ruins in all their glory. 8. Constantly avoiding being hit by a bicyclist in Amsterdam. Trust me, they will not stop for you. I went to The Netherlands on my first ever trip to Europe. It was my second stop, after France.  Bikes in Amsterdam 7. One of my best friends from college has family in Charleston, who were lovely enough to let us come and stay with them and enjoy the comforts of their home whilst alternating between beaching it up and exploring the more historic parts of the city. Charleston, SC is on of my favorite spots in America, rivaling Savannah and San Francisco.  How could you not fall in love if this was your backyard?  6. Taking nearly an entire afternoon to explore Parc Guell, Barcelona, Spain. It was one of my favorite parts of our trip. It's so interactive and there's so much to play with and take in, not to mention, it's beautiful and interesting. Since Sam and I went, they've started charging entrance to the park. This trip celebrated my finishing my MA so it's pretty special for that reason too!  View of Barcelona from Parc Guell. 5. When I befriended a stray cat in Turkey, who I un-ironically named "Cat". Cat and I had a true friendship that lasted the entire week as he greeted me every day. Sam putt his foot down on bringing a stray cat back from Turkey, especially because we had nowhere to live in London when we returned. We had a very tearful farewell.  Yes, I am completely aware that this story makes me sound like a crazy person. Cat and I. The truest of friends. 4. I think it's pretty much safe to say that coming to London for the first time in the fall of 2010 was pretty much a game changer. There was no Sam. I was still feeling pressured into pursuing a law degree, and a future living abroad was definitely not on the cards.   This is pretty much the first ever photo I took in England. 3. Getting to stand on the ancient Roman stage in Aspendos, Turkey.  Actually, I think our time in Turkey was one of the most glorious and relaxing trips I've ever been on. Plus, Sam and I finally got to celebrate seeing each other after being apart for ages waiting for my visa, and him being swamped by work at the RSC. As much of the amphitheater and it's glory as you can fit in to one frame.  2. Eastbourne, England will always hold such a special place in my heart because it's the first place that Sam and I ever traveled to together. Even if it was just for a weekend break. Plus, Beachy Head is stunning (despite all the tragedy that surrounds it.) 
Sunset over Beachy Head. 1. Exploring Paris with Sam. I'd been to Paris before but he never had. I'd even been up the Eiffel Tower at dusk before but it did feel truly special sharing it someone you love. As cliche as that sounds, it's true. Even if that someone is about to be sick due to fear of heights.  Although the view from the Sacre Coeur is just as stunning.
