Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” – Job 1:20-21
I had a dream that I was afflicted with a progressive illness…Where my leg muscles were gradually getting weak…Thus, I was slowly losing the ability to walk.In my dream, I lost my balance so many times…Until the time came when my aunt was already assisting me…To the point of nearly carrying me to help me ambulate…Because my legs were already so weak.
I felt so terrified when I woke up…And couldn’t help but exclaim…“Thank God it was all a dream!”Because while I was dreaming, everything felt so real…The weakness and the falls seemed so real…
But that dream made me realize…That we can lose whatever it is that we have in just a snap of a finger…
Too often, we become so attached to worldy things…And that includes our bodies. We think that these things belong to us…That we own them…So that nothing can be more tragic than losing our most prized possessions…Most especially the parts of our bodies…Like when they are lost through an illness or an accident.
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? – 1 Corinthians 6:19
But the truth is, we don’t have ownership over anything that we claim to have possession of in this world…They don’t belong to us…Because they belong to God…And that does not exclude our bodies. It is God Who gave them to us…Therefore, we should respect if He decides to take it away from us.
The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father. – 1 John 2:16
And that dream? It taught me to learn to let go of anything that is of this world…To remove any attachment I have from them…Including my body…Because when I die, I’ll lose my earthly body anyway. But that shouldn’t mean that we should stop being stewards of God’s creation…And it doesn’t mean that we should no longer take care of our bodies.
The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. – 1 John 2:17
