who would've thought i would wear boots inside the house?
In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. — John 16:33
Wednesday a few minutes past midnight, A time when the rain due to Typhoon Helen was strongest, The power went off. I ignored the absence of electricity and went on photoshopping on my laptop as I relied on its battery to keep it on.
Suddenly my dad tells me to transfer the items in the dining area to a dry place inside the house. I was puzzled. A few minutes later, power was back, And it was only then that I realized that water was starting to get inside the dining area. But don’t worry. The water level wasn’t that high and only our feet were submerged. It still felt disgusting, though. And we had to wear boots to keep our feet dry.
The rain scared me, nonetheless, As I recounted the tragedy brought about by Typhoon Ondoy back in 2009 – When it was raining hard and rivers from some areas overflowed, causing flash floods. And deaths. And a lot of people homeless. My mom advised me to check on the water level inside the house every now and then. But thank God, it didn’t rise any further.
There was less rain the following day, giving the water time to settle and the dining area to get dry. The house may still be a little bit of a mess. But praise God, all is well. And that’s what matters most.
