With the girlfriend extending her visit thanks to some gentle coaxing by me it's been a fun last week. Back in the day I used to go out every night off. Every. Night. Off. Nowadays I enjoy staying in so much more, but it's nice every once in awhile to go out and chill with good music and good company, and with this weather anything outside has been great. This last Tuesday we were chillin at the house and decided to go downtown. Pint night at Surf Club, a couple PBRs at Mulligans, and a good crowd at Cassidys Irish Pub. Sometime after Surf Club (pictured above) my phone died on me and as we walked into a crazy scenic atmosphere at Cassidy's all I kept thinking to myself was "So. Many. Good. Pictures. I. Can't. Take.". Pamela's phone was dead too. Oh well. It was nice to be disconnected.

You know your girl looks good when a stranger comes over and says, "No disrespect, but your girl is rocking her hat." [fist bump]. Nice.

Remember what I said about staying in? We did plenty of that too. I can't remember when we talked about it, but at some point a movie marathon was brought up and it turned out that Pamela hadn't seen the original Star Wars trilogy before. It may be the nerd in me talking, but everyone at some point in their lives has to see the three original Star Wars. Same goes for the Back To The Future movies, the first two DieHards, the Notebook, and Pulp Fiction. [scroll up and click "Watch These Movies". Tell me if I'm missing any would you. That list needs updating]. So that's what we did. Pizza, ice cream, and movies. We watched the Star Wars trilogy over the span of 2 days and of course they didn't disappoint. Personal fave is always The Empire Strikes Back. One of the absolute best sequels ever. I wish I would have been old enough to see it at the movies and experience the "Luke, I am your father" reveal. That had to be up there with the Bruce-Willis-is-dead reveal in the Sixth Sense movie (which I also didn't get to experience cuz some little kid ruined it for me before I got a chance to see it. Damnit).

Rounding out all this fun was an apartment fire last shift. Came in at midnight. One unit, fully engulfed. The occupant said he was cooking and fell asleep. Who cooks at midnight? Oh well. Poor guy lost his apartment. It's amazing it didn't spread to the rest of the building. Good job knocking it down and containing it by everyone involved. It's funny, cuz afterward we kept talking about how it was like a movie fire. In the movies, the firefighters can see across a fully involved room, they're talking and hearing each other as they put it out, but anyone who's ever fought a fire knows that is never the case. You can't see anything but black smoke until you're right on top of the fire, you're usually falling all over the place, the heat is so ridiculous sometimes you have to crawl on your belly like a snake, and communication is next to impossible. But in this fire, because it had burned out through the balcony and out the door, the blinding smoke wasn't present and the heat was able to escape. So there we were, seeing clearly across the firy room, standing up, talking with each other and communicating across the room as we put it out. It was cool, actually. Just like the movies.

I'd give photo credit if I knew who took these. Someone on the medic unit I'm assuming.

And that brings us to last night. Pamela and I went out to Brewster's with her parents and then ended the night at Cassidy's. It was a nice night with a cool breeze, and a U2 cover band called WOWU2 (With Or Without U2) was playing hit after hit. After a mediocre start these guys who really looked the part got into their wheelhouse and put on a fun show. We kept cracking up at a group of guys who kept going up to the stage. The lead singer is of course in full Bono get-up and these guys are acting like he's really Bono, at one point singing into the mic with him as he belted out "Where the Streets Have No Name". I'm sure when this singer first imagined the cover band and he envisioned fans loving him and singing with him into the mic he imagined the fans being girls and not wasted dudes. Oh well, it was still fun to watch. I gotta hit up Brewster's more often, especially when the nights are cool like they're gonna be. Mañana is another chill day at the house. I think DieHard 1 & 2 are in our future for the day, and then it's a Monday Night Football night watching the Cowboys and the Redskins. I say this a lot, but life is good. It really is. Nite.
