NBA Draft 2012

Thursday was the NBA Draft in New Jersey. Sorry that I am just now posted this blog but G and I made a last minute trip to Iowa. Aw we were driving, we listen to the draft on ESPN radio and through twitter. Thank you to everyone for helping me with this blog! 
This is the first round draft only with some fun stats about the players, conferences, or teams. 
1. New Orleans Hornets: Anthony Davis, Kentucky
The last time an SEC team was drafted #1 was John Wall in 2010. Before that it was Shaq in 1996 from LSU. 


2. Charlotte Bobcats: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky
3. Washington Wizards: Bradley Beal, Florida
First time that SEC had the Top 3 picks. 


4. Cleveland Cavaliers: Dion Waiters, Syracuse
5. Sacramento Kings: Thomas Robinson, Kansas
6. Portland Trailblazers: Damian Lillard, Weber State
7. Golden State Warriors: Harrison Barnes, UNC
I will love watching Harrison play for the Warriors. Always love to represent Iowa when I can. I was so happy when he went to UNC and not ISU. I think Coach Williams could have done so much more with him and teach him about the game. At times I do wish he went to ISU.  


8. Toronto Raptors: Terrence Ross, Washington
9. Detroit Pistons: Andre Drummond, UConn
10. Charlotte Bobcats: Austin Rivers, Duke
As soon as he was drafted everyone (I follow) and facebook followers called him arrogant, cocky, etc. I was impressed with his interview on the radio. I am excited to watch him play next season. I think it will be a great game against the Celtics. 


11. Portland Trailblazers: Meyers Leonard, Illinois
He is the first Illinois drafted to the NBA. 


12. Houston Rockets: Jeremy Lamb, UConn
13. Phoenix Suns: Kendall Marshall, UNC
14. Milwaukee Bucks: John Henson, UNC
15. Philadelphia 76ers: Maurice Harkless, St. John's University
16. Houston Rockets: Royce White, IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY 
For those of you who don't know I am a graduate from Iowa State. I love Royce and I think he will be a great addition to any team. The only thing that I didn't like was people kinda being weird about his flying situation. 


From Iowa State Men's Basketball (CycloneMBB) , Royce White is the 9th NBA first-rounder in Iowa State history. Abdul-Aziz, Grayer, Alexander, Meyer, Cato, Fizer, Tinsley, Brackins.


17. Dallas Mavericks: Tyler Zeller, UNC
He was immediately traded to the Cavs for draft picks. 
18. Houston Rockets: Terrence Jones, Kentucky
19. Orlando Magic: Andrew Nicholson, St. Bonaventure
20. Denver Nuggets: Evan Fournier
First International player drafted in this year's draft. 


21. Boston Celtics: Jared Sullinger, The Ohio State University
22. Boston Celtics: Fab Melo, Syracuse
23. Atlanta Hawks: John Jenkins, Vanderbilt
The last Vandy player drafted was in 2008, but in the second round. The last first round was in 1988 (Will Perdue) (SEC Sports)


24. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jared Cunningham, Oregon State
25. Memphis Grizzles: Tony Wroten, Jr., Washington
26. Indiana Pacers: Miles Plumlee, Duke
27. Miami Heat: Arnett Moultrie, Mississippi State
This is MSU's first round draft pick since 1996. (SEC Sports)
28. Oklahoma City Thunder: Perry Jones, III, Baylor
I love this pick. One of my favorite tweets from this pick was from James Harden's beard to Perry Jones to get more followers.


29. Chicago Bulls: Marquis Teague, Kentucky
30. Golden State Warriors:  Festus Ezeli, Kentucky 
Depending on who you ask this was a pretty typical draft by the experts. The scouts thought it was the strangest draft in 30 years. Just depends on who you talk to. I am not an expert, and didn't even to follow most of the season. To be honest I didn't even keep track pre draft as well. This is just my opinion of what I know about the players. 
Records: 
Kentucky had 6 players drafted in the first round. Only other team to have 6 players was UNLV in 1977.  (SEC Sports)
In a 2 year span, Kentucky has the most players drafted with 10. (SEC Sports) 
Record breaking night for the Baylor Bears as 3 players were drafted. (Andy Katz)
