Curator’s Choice for Moving Image

Happy to announce that I am a Curator’s Choice winner for the Noise Festival.

Henney

What is Noise Festival? Well, even now I am not 100% sure. Rewind two months and I had never heard of it but was handed a leaflet at my New Designers exhibition urging me to enter. & here we are. 14 curators picked their favorite work from ‘over 5,000 global entries #HenneyRepresenting.

As part of the launch, I was invited to House of Commons in London. We moved from one small, ornate room to the next until we arrived at a buffet of gluten filled posh cakes and afternoon tea.

Where’s the ‘gluten-free’, House of Commons?!

All the winners were awarded with certificates and I probably held mine for ten seconds for a photo before parting ways because ours had not been signed. I do hope I actually get it back with Clive’s sig! Unfortunately, our curator was busy (rumour has it in the US) so we could not meet him. However, his representative (neither have met irl though) was so lovely :].

I then walked for an eternity to find my plinth. As part of being a Curators Choice artist, my work will be displayed in London, outside 24/7 for two months.

My little Henney is all grown up! I hope she doesn’t get too cold at night.

I love everything Henney represents, fyi I’ve decided she represents everything good in life. So sharing her with the commuters of London doesn’t make her seem make believe anymore.

The next day I also visited an animation studio in London which concludes my London stint – for now?

It was lovely to grab a couple of minutes with an illustrator/animator there who happily flicked through my portfolio! Hmm.. I think it does reaffirm that illustration/ 2-D animation is my calling. Or at least a project that allows me to be passionate about creating art.

It’s imperative that you are acknowledged for doing something that only you can bring to the table. So in my case, I think it would be my artistic style/ vision ..?

I recall watching a couple short interviews with some curators who offered internships, etc., to their chosen artists. So I’m not really sure if anything will happen with my cosy group of four/five.. or if that ship has sailed.

Clive Barker, if you’re reading ahah, give me a heads up! It would be lovely to meet you/hear from you!

I feel like the initial buzz has died down and perhaps I am now a little sullen. What next? Is this it? But I am on target. I told myself it would be great if I could get something/somewhere before my trip to the Far East and this came about initially at the end of last week.

I really wanted this before the winners were announced – and I scare myself with how complacent I initially become when something goes my way. The horror of having to do something beyond a computer screen perhaps. However, deep down I am tres happy and will continue to stare at photos of Henney’s plinth for sometime now. To those who followed me early on during my Kickstarter campaign, I hope you can look on like a proud parent!

It’s easy to become complacent with life (yes I was just writing about this), but lately I’ve made a conscious effort to think more positively. It really is true, if you think positive then you come into good things. Well, it happened to ordinary, little me, so it can happen to anyone.

You don’t know what’s around the corner (& everytime I said this, something new cropped up – try it!).

 Here’s to you!
