NYX Love in Paris | Madeleines and Macaroons

Posted on the 14 July 2013 by Genzelkisses

I haven’t had my own eyeshadow palette until this year.  I don’t know but I always think that I don’t look good with eyeshadows on my lids or maybe I’m just such a newbie with makeup those days.  Today I’m going to share with you my second eyeshadow palette that I purchased.  Yes, second.  The first one that I bought was from Props Tools and Cosmetics which I’m also going to review pretty soon as I’m now on the blossom of learning makeup application.

NYX Love in Paris - Madeleines and Macaroons

NYX Love in Paris Madeleines and Macaroons | $9.99 from Ulta (approx. P420.00)

I was on a search for a good go-to or everyday eyeshadow palette that I can also bring with me almost everywhere I go.  Of course, my budget was just around P500.00 for it as I wasn’t ready to splurge on eyeshadow palettes as of the moment.  Thanks for the help of my blogger friend Eyah of Eyahnism and we found this one.  I never really use eyeshadow whenever I go out until I got my hands on this palette.

It is sealed on the left side so you are sure it wasn’t swatched or anything.

I love this ribbon detail as lock of the palette.  It makes it prettier as per the packaging.

Let’s talk about the packaging.  I understand why they put a clear transparent plastic cover over those colors instead of a mirror so people can see the shades and finishes of the eyeshadows without opening the palette.  However, I still prefer if they put even a little mirror into it so you don’t need to get a separate mirror when you use it.  Let’s say, when you’re applying eyeshadows while on the road in a taxi cab.

It also comes with this reliable foam applicators instead of a mini eyeshadow brush which I really appreciate as it does the job well in applying these eyeshadows.  I honestly use this instead of a brush most especially if I’m on a hurry with my makeup.  I can use all four sides of it with 4 of my favorite colors from this palette and just use my clean fingers whenever I find it necessary.

Details at the back of the palette

It contains 7.2 grams in total, meaning 0.25 oz net weight of each color.  I love the fact that it’s also cruelty free (not tested on animals).

It comes with 9 gorgeous shades that you can use for different makeup look you want that’s friendly for everyday eye makeup.  You can mix and match these colors and come up with a variety of looks with just this palette on your hand.  These colors are in different eyeshadow finishes that I’ll discuss with you as we go on.

Swatches without flash (didn’t edit the lighting and colors)

I applied this on my bare skin so I can see how pigmented they can be without using any primer or eyeshadow base.  I prefer not to use flash with these swatches as I rarely take photos of myself with flash. (Errr no!)  As you can see, they are not highly pigmented.  With a price of P420.00 for 9 colors, I guess you’ll know already why.  But of course, we just have to be creative and maximize the use of these colors :)

Another swatches but this time, I used my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil as my base prior to application of these eyeshadows.  It’s so far from the photo above it.  This time, the colors are a bit more intense and they popped out as you can really notice them on the skin.

First Row (left to right)

✔  An off-white shade, matte2 as it’s not chalky even if it’s matte.  I use this to highlight my brow bone.  A small amount goes a long way.  It lasts for the entire day too.

✔  This one is a dark brown shade in matte2 also.  I use this on my crease and blend it out for a natural look and accentuate the shape of my eyes.

★  A frosted finish in wheat shade.  This is my favorite among all of these colors.  I put it at the middle of my lids on top of my pupil area.

Second Row (left to right)

✔ A dark gray shade in satin finish, perfect for that smokey eye makeup look.

✘ Pale gold shade in matte with glitter/sparkles.  It’s chunky and chalky.  I really hate it and it’s my least favorite in this palette.  Lots of fallout and doesn’t adhere to the skin well.

★ My second favorite shade in this palette.  Golden rode shade that looks good on the eyes even if you use it alone.  It has a frosted finish same as the one on top of it on the 3rd column of this palette.

Third Row (left to right)

✔  Peachy shade in matte2 finish.  I rarely use this color but whenever I do, I put it as the base color of my eye makeup.

★  My third favorite shade that I also use for contouring my nose.  Well, I’m not so blessed with a pointed nose so contouring does the job :)  It’s a 3rd level of tan shade in matte-satin finish.

✘  Second to my least favorite from this palette.  Color pay-off is not really good.  You do have to use an eyeshadow base or primer to make the color noticeable.  It’s in rosy shade with matte2 finish.

I’ll try to do an FOTD using this palette and probably a makeup tutorial on my youtube channel.  Yes? :)

I noticed that NYX Love in Paris in Madelienes and Macaroons is acceptable as a dupe for Urban Decay Naked Basics but of course it’s not on a par with the quality of the latter.

LOVE

✔  Pretty packaging

✔ Affordable for only $9.99 with 9 colors

✔ Perfect for everyday eye makeup

✔ They last for hours except the chalky one at the middle of the palette.

CONCERN

✿  Available online.  I believe it’s already available here at SM Annex North.

✿  Quality = Price.  It may not be a great eyeshadow palette but you get what you pay for.

✿  No mirror.

TIP/s and RECOMMENDATION

✰  To improve the color payoff, use a quality eyeshadow primer or cream as base.  I use either my ELF eyeshadow primer or my NYX Jumbo Eye pencil in Milk for intense color.

✰  You may also opt to use a makeup setting spray all over the place to make the look intact for longer hours.

REPURCHASE

Maybe but not so soon.  I’m planning to get Urban Decay – Naked Basics next for my go-to makeup palette :)

OVERALL

3andhalfkisses

It’s a good makeup palette for everyday use but I know I can find a better one for the same purpose.  But don’t get me wrong as I love this palette as my current go-to eye makeup.  It’s affordable and handy too.  So for me, it’s a good purchase considering the price and the quality.

WHERE TO BUY

Bought mine from ULTA

You can also try their kiosk at SM Annex North or these online shops I prefer below:
