Out of sight out of mind.
Just a quick blogpost for you. I wrote this on impulse in about 20 minutes. At least this way I am continuing to blog, after all I am paying to keep Larlarcharms up and running! I have subsequent blogposts planned but no time to write them! Whoever told you students have it easy obviously never signed up for a degree in Digital Animation. It takes ‘proper’ Animation Studios weeks to work on a short sequence (a few seconds). I could complain how time consuming it is having to do everything by yourself because I do not have a team to help me, but I’m better than that!.. I have to do everything from coming up with the flippin’ idea in the first place to concept art, storyboards, (dodgy) animatic, audio, etc., I really could go on but I’m boring myself. *Violin strings*
Weeks ago, months ago, no, weeks ago, right? Anyway parabens happened. *mirror shattering noise* and my life has not been the same since. You have to question every product and double-check to see if it contains toxic parabens which are chucked out, pronto. I’ve since replaced my make-up with about 4 pieces of paraben-free make-up. Thankfully I am not a make-up addict. I’ve also switched deodorants and got all of the family on board with this. We all use, paraben-free, parfum-free and aluminium-free roll-ons or crystal sticks. I will compile a blogpost at the some point reviewing the new, safer products I have bought. It is really daunting thinking you have to start afresh, but brand recommendations make the process a little easier or at least give you a starting point to research.
I was feeling sorry for myself just thinking of parabens. But unforunately I also learnt about nail varnish chemicals. Of course it isn’t a surprise because they smell so toxic. Wah wah wah there goes my entire collection. But it’s okay, I didn’t wear nail varnish much either. Yes I am aware that I am coming across as someone who doesn’t make an effort on my appearance. But I just like to think I’m low maintenance.. Cue more writing about another promised blog-post that will probably not be written for another month. But in the mean time, research “3-free” and “5-free”. If you are looking for a serious kick up the backside to force you into having a massive product clear-out then please, go ahead and research. Or maybe you want to stay naive to this because you don’t want to chuck out your beloved O.P.I varnish. Well, if it falls under “3-free” or even better a “5-free”, then it doesn’t contain up to five of the most common BAD chemicals. There is still hope for your O.P.I nail varnish. Although my one and only O.P.I varnish contains a triple threat of ‘Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor’. I’ve read that newer ranges of O.P.I are safer but please don’t just take my word it it because I have evidence not to trust the brand.
Okay, figuratively speaking, I feel like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards. To add insult to injury, do not research “cosmetic chemicals to avoid”. Don’t do it! (do it).

..damn it. So right at the moment I am stuck because ALL of our hand-washes in the house contain ingredients that are on this list – that can be linked to cancer. NO THANK YOU.
No problem I thought, I’ll just switch them with out antibacterial gel she said. HELLO, ‘Triethanolamine’ is also linked to the c-word and ‘Parfum’ is in freaking e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g and I thought this was just a potential skin irritant, but oh no, it too can be linked to the c-word. Brilliant. What the hell are we supposed to use then?! The world is annoying me. Why do we have to take it for granted that bad chemicals are in everything. Why can’t I buy a cheap bottle of shampoo and find out it is completely natural. No wonder the c-word is common- around 1 in 3 will get some form of it in their lifetime. But then if you think of all the different array of shit you are exposing yourself to everyday. It adds up, right? 10 years. 20 years. 30 years and so on of us repeatedly and in most cases, naively applying bad chemicals directly onto our skin or continuously breathing them in via nail polish/ body sprays.
I haven’t known about any of this for too long. But I feel the strongest will to let everyone else know. You can make up your own mind about this. If you are happy using products that are increasing your risk to cancer and other diseases (some of which ARE preventable) then be my guest, that’s the beautiful thing about the West – freedom of speech. I will say no more. But, if like me, you are now aware of and have researched the heck-outta it, it’s time to ditch that parabitch and ‘naturally’ move forward.
Whenever I go into a drug-store now, I just think of everybody looking at toiletries/make-up. Especially young teens/children. I wonder if they also know the extra stress they are putting their bodies through? That exposure to these chemicals is starting at such young ages. It really can’t be good for anyone’s health to have such prolonged risks. Everything is so processed these days. I’m fed up of hearing about obesity and fast-food debates. But at least it is out there and most people are aware of the connection. However, it is pretty damn obvious that not many are FULLY aware of the bad chemicals that are cheaply shoved into everything. I like to think if more people knew, they too, would try to do something about it.
That’s my rant done with for today. I hope I have helped at least one person with this blog post!
As I already mentioned, there are many more posts in the pipe-line. If the uni work eases up (ha) then I’ll have a go at posting an interesting post, with pictures and everything.
