Overcoming the Hate – The Run

Are you guys like me? me, who hates running, and anything that’s too intensive and causes loads of sweat and sticky yucky what-nots to glister on your skin when you are done? truth be told, i really hate running. i used to do intensive swimming on a regular basis, and that was how i maintained my slimmer self. now, i stopped that, cause i got tired of going to the pool weekly, even though it did have its stress relieving qualities.

reasons why i hate to run.

  1. it feels mindless, and i don’t like mindless activities
  2. i have weak respiratory system, so anything that is too intensive causes me to have shortness of breath, this later becomes an excuse to not do anything intensive at all
  3. the prospect of getting up early or and missing out on sleep to run. i usually have activities till late at night, so night runs are out of the question.
  4. running makes me feel heavy as i trudge through the pavement

time seems to just slow down for me when i run. i feel as though i’m not accomplishing anything and that my legs tire out way fast, and the breathing issues doesn’t help my mental build up.

so i’ve decided its time to seriously PUT A STOP TO ALL THOSE USELESS EXCUSES!

after doing some reading, i found some really motivating benefits of running that seems to be pushing me pass that self-made barrier to not run.

some of these greatness that comes with running are

  1. Healthy Heart – running, like a lot of exercises help to work out that muscle, your heart. blood circulation is improved and risks of heart attacks are reduced
  2. Brain Power – with increased blood flow to your brain, supplying oxygen and nutrients, your brain power is upped. this causes better work production. i think this is good for me, since i have a fish brain of a memory.
  3. Immune System – is boosted up. with healthier body, chances of you falling ill due to those common flu and colds and backaches and digestive disorders, even menstrual discomforts are reduced! whoopee!
  4. Complexion – with improved blood circulation, nutrients can be supplied to your body, and waste materials can be transported away from your organs (even your skin), giving you a beautiful glow.
  5. Sleep – if you suffer from insomnia, like me since i cant fall asleep till 4 in the morning and wake up at 9, running helps you to sleep better and longer. of course, most types of exercises help with this aspect.
  6. Weight Loss – this is a definite motivator. 5km can bring about approximately 340 calorie loss. you can calculate how much you can lose by using the calorie calculator here.
  7. Fat Burn – with burning away of fats, you create muscles for that lean and toned body. who doesn’t want that right?

i’ve managed to convince myself that running will bring a whole lot of benefits for me, especially now since i am not satisfied with the way i look and my current physical health. I also keep reminding myself that results are not immediate, and any routine set up must be maintained in the long run to reap maximum benefits. with increased blood circulation to your body, and a constant working of that heart of a muscle, your metabolism increases, and the ultimate goal, of a healthier and slimmer you won’t be just a dream anymore.

all it takes now, is to get your feet into those track shoes, pick up your iPod with your favorite tunes and head out of that door for a run now.

you need to break free from your self created mental obstacle. when you do, you know you won’t ever regret it later.
