Posted on the 25 September 2016 by Jaideep Khanduja @PebbleInWaters

Renee Gauthier lives in Toronto, Canada. After returning to school, she graduated from the Film & Television program at Humber College in the spring of 2015.

During her years in this program, she had the privilege of working on several short films and many commercials with her fellow students making up the crews. She had the pleasure of directing half of these projects and leading her crew to success. In fact, she has also taken on many other roles in including Production Manager, Assistant Director and Editor. And she enjoys every aspect of the filmmaking process.

She is an author. And when she started writing her novel, she had no idea that she would end up at this point. With one book finished and another underway.

Renee Gauthier won the 2nd place in the ‘League for Innovation Student Literary Contest’ for her One Act Play called ‘One Moment’.

Welcome, Renee Gauthier.

Please share some of the best memories of your childhood

Christmas was always my favorite memories of childhood. My mother always went all out and when we were under 10 we would go to the tree farm and cut down our tree, although waiting days to decorate it was not so good. LOL

About your education

Earlier, this spring, I graduated from a Film & Television Production course at college. I am a mature student, in my 40’s, who always wanted to know how to make films and felt this was the perfect time in my life to do it. It was a very rewarding experience that I would certainly do again. Over 20 years ago, I also went to college and was a licensed hairstylist for many years.

What career did you plan during your education days

Hairstyling early on, but never quite fit that occupation, so I wore many different hats over the years.

What languages you can speak and write?

English is my only language.

Interview Renee Gauthier

What is your biggest source of inspiration in life?

My family. Cartoons, I love the imagination, creating worlds, watching other’s creations. I love the 3D world and all that is possible in 3D software now.

What hurts you most in this world?

Poverty, hunger, and homelessness. As I see it, there really is no reason for this to be happening in the world today.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced? How did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was being a single parent. You just do want you can to make it day by day. Now that I am this age, my son went off to college I decided to take my life back. That’s how I ended up at college and writing. Best decision ever.

If you had to live a day of your life as one of the living or dead personality, who would it be and why?

Steven Spielberg, because I would love the opportunity to see what goes through his mind when reading a script he knows he wants to direct. I wonder what his process is and how he sees the script while reading it.

What is your favorite genre and why?

Mystery, Crime, Suspense. I love trying to figure out what is happening and who did it.

Interview Renee Gauthier

When did you start writing? What is the purpose of your writing?

March 16, 2009, to be precise was when I started writing. I would now say it was an out-of-body experience when I began my writing journey and if you ask me today where it came from or how I do it, I couldn’t tell you exactly. When a story comes to me, in my mind it appears as a movie. I can see the characters, see their conversations and their surroundings, but the hard part is writing to make it sound like I see… very difficult.

Which of your work has been published so far? Would you like to share a synopsis of your work?

My novella Longing is about a minor character, Leroy from my full-length debut novel, exposing his backstory and hopefully inciting readers to want to read the novel when released.

Longing is a novella about two men coming together, one out for justice, the other revenge.

Leroy returns home after serving 8 years in the Special Forces to discover his nightmare has not ended but just began. After discovering that his sister has been missing for months, Leroy sets out on a mission to find and bring her home. Meeting, Landon Miller, exposes Leroy to a world of corruption he had no idea existed.

What are your forthcoming writings?

My full-length novel, Control, will release in early 2016. The second installment is half written, a release date around summer of 2016. I am also writing a YA novel featuring an extraordinary 14-year-old boy.

Interview Renee Gauthier

What genres you write in and why?

Mystery, Crime anything that comes to me. I don’t pick stories, they pick me.

What keeps you motivating towards writing?

If I don’t write the story down it repeats itself in my mind over and over until I do write… good or bad. LOL

If Writing a Book is taken as a project, What are the key essentials you take care of in Project Management?

I try to write as if I were the reader of the story, what would I like, what wouldn’t I like. Is it believable? I also try to write as much as I can, but it’s not always easy to do with so much to distract you.

How do you plan, schedule and monitor your writing commitments?

The only commitments I have at this time are my own, which are probably harder to keep than anyone else’s would be.

What are your future plans?

I have several books I hope to publish over the next year, but I also write screenplays, which I hope to polish and get in the right hands soon.

What is generally your preference in reading – a paper book or ebook? And why?

Either, I’m not picky. I read both.

What four top most things you take care of while writing a book?

Characters are most important when I’m writing a book. I want them to be real and believable, but also interesting enough to keep people interested.

How much real life goes into a fiction writing?

I’m sure a lot, but it’s not my life I’m writing about, I’m sure some of myself fills that screen at times.

Interview Renee Gauthier

Is a high level of imagination important to have for an Author?

Absolutely, imagination fills most the white space on my screen. Even though my stories come to me, I believe that in order to receive stories you have to open your mind and imagination to all things.

Your favorite color and why?

Hot pink, it’s probably the color that looks best on me. LOL.

What is the last book you finished reading? What is the current book you are reading?

Snatchers by Stephen Edgar. I’ve been too busy as of late but hope to pick up another book soon.

Your favorite book and why?

Misery by Stephen King because it keeps me turning the pages quickly wondering what would happen to Paul. Probably one of the fastest books I read.

Your favorite movie and why?
