We babysat last weekend. I adore children as do my little girl. We babysat for hours that day, singing songs, listening to music and discovering toys and sounds. I am not sure who enjoyed it more, my daughter or me.
My daughter, she is a special little girl. She absolutely adores babies. She tries to help out as much as she can when we babysit for friends. She will bring them toys to play with, make sure they have enough to drink or eat and make sure that they are comfortable when they are a sleep.
She pats them to sleep. She sings them lullabies. She makes sure they have a blankie and aruggy. She made sure we speak in whispers as to not wake the baby up. Once asleep, she goes into the other room to play. She said that baby needs to have a nap so we play in the other room. She stayed in the other room until she fell asleep herself.
Baby’s dad came to pick baby up, while my daughter was napping. We said our good byes and I shut the door. My daughter came up to me and whispered “is baby still sleeping?” I told her that baby went home with her daddy and said thank you for taking care of her.
I could see that she was sad that baby left. “Owh” she said quietly, “Will baby come back soon?”. “Yes,” I said. “Of course she will.” A smile lighten up her face and then, she asked if I could help her put away all her toys.
Yes. My daughter, she is a special one.
One day, if fate permits, she will be an amazing big sister.
