Skin protection from pollution and harsh environment is becoming a serious concern these days. It was a day of consolidation of such thoughts at Dr Deepali Bhardwaj’s new clinic in Defence Colony. Almost all the celebrities present there agree that Beauty indeed is skin deep. There were politicians, entrepreneurs, singers, and artists among these celebrities present at Centre for Hair and Skin Clinic on 21st December. The agenda was to share ideas to protect skin from increasing pollution in the city.

A recent report from SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research) is quite alarming. It says the pollution levels in Delhi a day after Diwali were much higher than ever before. In fact, the Particulate Matter (hazardous particles in the air) PM 10 were 836.1µg/m³ and 624.2µg/m³. This, as a matter of fact, is more than eight times the safe limit if we look at the former figure.  Similarly, latter is almost 10 times the safe limit. Skin protection, under these circumstances, has become a point of major concern.

As we all know the pollution level in the Capital is increasing at a tremendous pace. In this context, leading dermatologist Dr Deepali Bhardwaj enlightens the common man and woman about the ways to protect one’s skin from allergies. And, in fact, you need more attention towards skin protection especially in the case of the rapid environment changes happening around us. She rightly alarms,  “Skin is the most sensitive tissue as it is directly exposed to the changes in our environment- be it rough weather, pollution, or stress. The PM particles in the environment directly affect the skin and can cause skin allergies like Urticaria, Dermographism, Wheals, Rashes, and even Skin Asthma. Hence it is very important to take care of our skin and take proper precautions even if one has naturally good skin in order to maintain it.”

Among various personalities and celebrities, the highlight of the evening was the Guest of Honour, MP Manoj Tiwari, and RSS Member Indresh Kumar.  Both, in fact, were there to endorse her belief that the government and citizens need to work together in order to combat the menace of pollution. They were seen candidly interacting with the guests. As a matter of fact, they were even singing a song, and sharing some tips to make this city a better place to live in.

The power of Positivity is the essence of life as per Manoj Tiwari. He says,  “It is important to care not just for ourselves but also the environment we live in so that we can look and feel better. I believe that the people of Delhi are very caring, and this is an appeal to all Delhi-ites to start taking small steps to care for their environment and neighborhood.”

In fact, he also emphasizes the importance of nature. It is very important to stay close to nature. And for this, we need to protect nature at any cost. We need to take simple steps in this direction. Like, having a couple of plants in our balcony to increase the fresh air is something everyone can do. In addition, going for a walk in the park every day is essential for everybody’s health. Thirdly, we must try to use green transport like metro instead of driving to work. These small things can bring a big change in our life.

On the same note, Indresh Kumar says, “It is as important to be beautiful within, as without. Therefore it is important to think positive, as our thoughts reflect directly on our skin. If you think negative thoughts of anger or jealousy, you cannot have beautiful skin.”

There were special guests like Mallika Nadda who is the wife of Union Health Minister JP Nadda. She wishes every Indian woman with loads of good health and good skin. She says, “Indian Women are born with beautiful skin. Our beauty is celebrated the world over. But, with the harsh realities of life, tough lifestyle, stress and growing responsibilities, women often neglect themselves. I hope Dr. Deepali is able to guide every woman in India to take care of herself and look her best, always!”
