picture from: http://coverspy.tumblr.com/post/866704738I'm not going to give you a whole summary of the book, so I will just give you the gist of the story.*There is this shepherd boy, Santiago, and he keeps having these dreams of traveling to the pyramids and finding a treasure. He meets an old man, a king, and the king gives him two stones: "Urim and Thummim", they will show him omens and help him find omens (something like that). He is told about PERSONAL LEGENDS. The king said if this is a dream you are having, than it is your personal legend to go to the pyramids. The boy is then sent on his way, he sells his sheep and is robbed many times. He runs into many obstacles and wants to give up and go back to being a simple shepherd boy many times, but the alchemist helps him realize that completing his personal legend is important.*My teacher, Mr. Stewart had us write out our personal legends. 
Mine is just about how I have always dreamed of getting one of my books published, writing a novel and becoming a famous author. Dreamed of appearing as a guest star on a talk show, although I wouldn't be a 'star', but I would be a guest on The View or Live with Kelly! Something like that. I will get a book of mine published one day, and I will get to be on talk shows. I will complete my personal legend. But for now, I'll just blog. It's an easy way for people to see my writing... although I haven't written anything book-wise on this blog yet. There will be though :)***The Alchemist is an 'ok' book. I actually enjoyed it and it was somewhat of an eye opener. I read the introduction and it was a very popular book. Harper Collins (the publisher) said, "reading The Alchemist was like getting up at dawn and seeing the sun rise while the rest of the world still slept." I kind of got that feeling when I read it. It was like I traveled to Egypt with Santiago and the alchemist. It was very interesting and I learned a lot about myself while reading this book. I give this book a 4/5. I don't score hard, if the book was really bad.... it would get a 2/5, but I enjoyed The Alchemist, so it's getting a 4/5 because I learned a lot from this book as well. I recommend The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho to anyone!
