The Best (Kickstarter) Backers!

Posted on the 09 July 2014 by Larlarcharms
A very overdue post

I can’t exactly remember why I chose to go with Kickstarter and not the other fund raising platfoms, but it was a perfect choice.

On a warm evening on the 5th of May, 2014, I found out that I wanted to create an animation based on the Kowloon Walled City. How can I remember such a specific time? Well, if you Google ‘Kowloon Walled City’, the second website is infact the DailyMail article that instantly lured me towards the mysterous slum.

FYI, I don’t fit into the Daily Mail’s target demographic, however, I like to ‘teaste’ those with a different mental disposition.

The top comments on that post are:

Without doubt one of the most interesting articles I have seen on this site. What an incredible place .I actually quite liked it.

Oh my god, I had no idea that a place like that really existed !!! Unbelievable !!!’

Clearly it wasn’t just me who enjoyed the post.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand..

Check out www.lara-king.co.uk to find out more about the Kowloon Walled City.

I could harp on about that all day (I’ve been researching about the KWC for over two years now!), however, this post is about my Kickstarter supports – who fueled the fire and inspired me to work hard.

Here is my Kickstarter page – I still post updates there.

If you haven’t checked my Kickstarter campaign out (no biggie), I basically wanted the best reference book for the job. Ian Lambot and Greg Girard published an intensive reference book on the Kowloon Walled City.

Coincidently, Ian Lambot and Greg Girard also created a Kickstarter campaign which was successfully funded on the 19th of April.

Maybe you are wondering why didn’t I just buy the book in the first place? Well, check out ‘Kowloon Walled City book’ on Amazon and you’ll have your answer! Infact, I had to settle on the Japanese edition in the end.

When I say ‘settled’, I didn’t really settle. This book has been amazing for my work, heck, it still is amazing – easily one of my favorite books (but that’s also because of the guys who helped me to get it!).

After all of the rambling you probably want to look at what I am talking about.

Thank you for your support! It meant a lot on the 21st September, 2013 and it still means so much to me because you supported me way back during the pre-production stage of my animation. I feel very humbled that I have been able to share my project’s milestones with you, our little community of creepy style lovers. aha.

You can check out my animation here:

Please anticipate my next post which is about my experience at the New Designers Graduate Exhibition in Islington, London.
