The rain, the typhoon that passed, the devastation it brought to some areas in the country, And the beautiful post by my friend, Debra – These all set the mood for me to reflect on God’s blessings.
“What does it mean to you to be blessed?” This was Debra’s thought-provoking question. And I shared in her comments section my own insight, “Being blessed means an abundance of God’s gifts.” And then at the back of my mind, I wonder, Was there ever a lack of God’s gifts?
When I see tragedies on tv, People suffering, bloodshed, death to those who are undeserving, I find myself saying, “I am blessed,” along with a collective sigh of relief, Grateful that such events didn’t happen to me.
But those who are going through difficult times in their lives – Are they less blessed than I am? And when there are hardships in my life… When I am hurting – Does that make me less blessed?
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. — Matthew 5:3-4
I am enlightened.
