It has been more than a year since I finally started my journey as a Professional HD Makeup Artist. No one ever imagined I'll be into this industry. Well, there were times when I was a so young when I wanted to be a beauty consultant, not really a makeup artist in a way but it's kinda related to it.
I've done hair and makeup to a lot of brides already so I wanted to share with you some tips for a successful wedding makeup, how you can have a smooth wedding makeup experience, from booking a hmua up to the day of your wedding.
- Book a makeup artist at least 3-6 months away from your wedding day. I suggest you ask friends for referral. If they know someone or have hired a makeup artist before that they like, then that would be really reliable. Go over with their portfolios, before and after photos (check to see they are not photoshoped, filtered, or edited), and clients. You can check makeup artists in Bridestory as they have nice portfolios there with complete details.

- Schedule for a trial hair and makeup. This is very important which sometimes gets ignored by clients. You wanted to see how you'll look like on your wedding day right? Plus, this allows time for adjustments or if you have any request for the makeup artist, then you can both work with it.
- If you're planning to have your facial, brow threading, waxing, and all those preparation activities for your wedding day. Do this at least two weeks before your big day. There are times when the skin changes (blemishes, pimples, breakouts come out) after facial, redness, or even skin allergies. Just in case any of these happened, then you still have allowance to rest the skin and probably get better.
- Day of the Wedding. If the call time that you and your makeup artists, , and other suppliers agreed to is for example 10am, then please be prepared ahead of time, let's say 9:45am you're already sitting pretty waiting to be pampered. I have experiences where, our call time is for example 5am because the wedding is 2pm and we got to do the HMU of the bride and entourage, but when we arrived at the hotel, they just woke up, haven't even showered yet, and worst, some are not even at the venue yet. This will delay your wedding. So if you don't want that to happen, then be on time. Bridal hair and makeup usually takes 2-3 hours, for entourage it's 1-2 hours per head. You need to calculate the time and manpower of your suppliers.
- Get an event planner or wedding organizer. I've been to weddings both with and without organizers and I tell you, weddings that are properly planned go well smoothly, there might be some problems along the way but still, it's a whole hella better than you plan everything yourself. Remember, you have to be the one who is relaxed, not on a rush, and all you think about is how you'll walk the aisle.

- Lastly, relax and get 8 hours of sleep. I know how excited you are for this day but if you want your whole body to be in good condition for this day, then you gotta sleep well. Lack of sleep result to being a "bridezilla" (when you're stressed and get moody with little things - you don't want to be this person), eye bags, puffy face, and tired looking aura.
That's it for my top tips for you guys if you're planning to get married anytime soon or have a bride-to-be friend. I hope this list helps you and I'm wishing you a congratulations in advance and best wishes!
