As some of you know, my full time job is working with the Phoenix Coyotes in sales. (Please don't ask me about the lock out because I can NOT answer.) I knew I always wanted to work in sports, but I didn't think in sales. I always thought I would work in the marketing or public relations department.
Today I'm going in a different direction that I normally do. This is a much more professional side of my blog. I have been debating on adding some professional sides to my blog. Who knows though? This blog post is part of a series with Young Female Entreprenuers.
Here are some bits of advice that people have told me along the way.
*Learn how to sell. If you can sell and show the owners you can bring in money then they will let you do anything.
For example, if you want to do game operations learn to sell sponsorships or ticket sales. Show them you can sell and build relationships. It is RARE that you will get a job starting out doing what you want.
*Be willing to do anything. In minor league baseball, I have had to pull tarp, sell concessions, and be the mascot. Be ready to do anything. Remember you are team.
*Never stop learning. Always be willing to learn and try different things. The minute you start learning you are settling. There is always someone ready to take your job. In my office, I have a Mark Cuban quote.
"Work like there's someone working 24 hours a day to take your job."
I have tons more tips on what I have learned. If you need advice or want to talk feel free to contact me. My email is lifeofasportswife {at} gmail {dot} com.
